Taking the Oath of Citizenship at a citizenship ceremony is the final step to become a Canadian citizen.
Due to COVID-19, IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) cancelled all in-person citizenship ceremonies, inviting applicants to video Oath ceremonies instead. This can be challenging to some people who do not have the computer equipment or knowledge to manage one.
411 seniors Centre the I&R Program supports seniors to sort out diverse seniors’ challenges like this, by providing the space for their citizenship ceremony.
Last November 10th at the I and R premises hosted the first citizenship ceremony where Sonia, a senior citizen who has been in Canada for over 30 years acquired the status as a citizen of Canada.
It was a usual day of work at 411 (I and R department) and turned into a special day, where Sonia’s evident happiness and proudness of becoming a citizen of this country, filed up the entire office!
It was a very emotional moment, thank you Sonia for trusting on 411 Seniors Centre society and sharing with us that important life event!
