411 Seniors Powered by Age Podcast

Powered by Age (PBA) is a unique senior-led podcast hosted and coordinated by Charlotte Sista C Ferrell, a published author, award-winning filmmaker, poet and retired college professor. Upon observing the excited response of people from several older adult programs who joined the initial podcast creation meetings, the program began offering training that enabled all those interested to learn how to use different mics, recording platforms and settings. This fulfilled a fundamental goal of 411’s Director, Leslie Remund – that the podcast program would enable transfer of technology to older adults and help them address the digital divide.

PBA podcast episodes tackle issues and topics pertinent to older adults in a complex, multi-dimensional, inter-generational society. Unlike typical podcasts with a single interviewer/host, our format invites and enables interested older adults to go beyond “hearing about older adult issues” to obtaining a foothold in the world of broadcast journalism. Most importantly it enables a variety of voices to be heard.

Powered by Age (PBA) gives a voice and opportunity for a diverse population of older adults to raise questions, clarify issues, celebrate their heritage, and share their vast reservoir of experience toward the goal of creating age-friendly cities.

S.P.I.N.S.

As a CJSF radio show host, Charlotte enlisted help from the station’s Public Affairs Coordinator, Jesse Wentzloff and Programming Coordinator, Robin Eriksson to provide additional training and recording assistance for PBA older adults who wanted to record their Stories, Poetry, Interviews or Novelties (S.P.I.N.'s). This is a novel feature among older adult podcasts.
