Volunteers Needed: Income Tax Preparers (In-person and Virtual)

Income Tax Clinic: Income Tax Preparer Volunteer Opportunity

 411 Seniors Centre requires experienced tax preparers to assist seniors and people with disabilities to complete simple tax returns. You can help file and complete taxes. Volunteers have the option to volunteer remotely if they are comfortable with using digital technology.

Volunteers complete tax and benefit returns for eligible low-income seniors and people with disabilities to ensure they receive or continue to receive, the benefit payments to which they are entitled.The Income Tax Clinic will run from March 6 to April 27, 2023. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one day a week, between Monday and Thursday, for the hours of 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM for the months of March and April 2023.

Attendance to a CVITP webinar/orientation (dates TBA), and either renew or apply for an EFile number are mandatory.

 QUALIFICATIONS– Experience is preferred in preparing personal income taxes but a willingness to learn is essential– Good communication skills and a warm and empathetic manner– Reliable, friendly and a good listener– Detail-oriented– Ability to work as part of a team with volunteers, clients and staff

DELIVERABLES/DUTIES– Preparation of simple income tax returns– Keep a tally sheet of the number of clients served– Refer income tax clients to Information and Referral Volunteers for additional assistance if needed– Will observe good ethical skills and maintain client confidentiality– Follow policies and procedures for CVITP and 411 Seniors.– Notify the Coordinator of planned absences
